Does Square magstripe work with chip cards?
The Magstripe Reader processes magnetic stripe cards only, but you can use the Square Chip Card Reader or the Contactless and Chip Card Reader to accept chip cards.
How do I use Square reader with chip?
When you’re ready to process a chip card with the Square app:
- Hold the card vertically with both the card and Square’s logo facing you.
- Insert the card (chip side first) into the front slot.
- Push the card to the left until you hear a click to make sure the chip on the card makes contact with the chip in the reader.
